Your Why.
Before you ask the journey for an answer, decide what you’re asking.
Ask a better question.
Sometimes the answer doesn’t arrive through more doing. It arrives when we become quiet enough to listen.
In everyday life, we’re taught to find answers by doing: work harder, think harder, make another list, solve the problem, keep moving.
At Divine Science Society, we approach intention differently. A journey can become an opportunity to step outside the noise of ordinary consciousness and become receptive to a deeper form of knowing — what you may experience as Divine Intelligence, Source, intuition, or the wisdom of your higher self.
Your intention is the question you bring into that conversation.
You become quiet.
You listen.
You don’t enter demanding an answer. You create space for a perspective that may be difficult to hear in the hustle and bustle of ordinary life.
Your attention has a filter.
Setting an intention tells your mind: this matters.
Your brain receives more sensory information than can reach conscious awareness. Brain systems involved in arousal, attention and salience help determine what gets prioritized.
The reticular activating system — often called the RAS — is part of circuitry involved in arousal and attention. But intention is bigger than a single brain structure. Goals, expectations and current concerns can influence what captures your attention, what you notice and how you interpret incoming information.
During a psychedelic experience, perception, emotion, attention and patterns of brain-network communication may also change. An intention can serve as a mental anchor — a meaningful question your awareness can return to as memories, feelings, associations and new perspectives arise.
The Science: direct your attention.
The Journey: notice what comes back.
Start with what is calling you.
There is no perfect intention. Begin with what feels alive.
Clarity
There’s something I want to see differently.
Connection
I want to feel closer to myself, someone I love, nature, or Source.
Healing
There’s something I’m ready to gently explore.
Release
I’m ready to loosen my grip on something I’ve been carrying.
Purpose
I’m asking what wants my attention next.
Love
I want to approach myself or others with a more open heart.
Creativity
I want to see beyond my familiar patterns.
Curiosity
I don’t need a specific answer. I’m open to what arises.
Open the question.
A powerful intention invites discovery instead of demanding an outcome.
“Fix my relationship.”
Try“Show me what I need to understand about this relationship.”
“Make my fear disappear.”
Try“Help me understand what my fear is asking me to notice.”
“Tell me what I’m supposed to do with my life.”
Try“Show me what wants my attention next.”
Receive without expectation.
Put it into words.
What are you ready to understand, release, remember, receive, or see differently?
Hold it lightly.
Your intention is a compass, not a contract. You are naming where you’d like to begin — not deciding where the journey must take you.
Go a little deeper.
Print it. Write on it. Make it yours.
The DSS Name Your Why — Intention Setting Ritual is a printable companion designed to help you slow down before your journey and explore the questions underneath your intention.
Use it to reflect on what is calling you, what you may be carrying, what you’re ready to see differently, what you’re ready to release, what you want to understand, what you want to reconnect with, and the one question you would ask your higher self.
You’ve named your why.
Now let go.
Carry the intention with you — lightly. You don’t need to chase the answer.
